HISTORICAL EXCURSIONS
Clunia crew members will also tour some exciting and little-known
historical sites in the region, from prehistoric tombs to medieval castles.
We believe that
visiting these places is essential to understanding
the historical context of the archaeological work at the dig. All excursions
are
included in the
program fees.
Some of these visits may change depending on the excavation schedule.
• Celtiberian and Roman city of Tiermes, with its impressive aqueduct system and rock-architecture.
• Medieval Castles of Gormaz and Caracena (10th and 15th centuries)
• Dolmen of Cubillejo de Lara. Megalithic Monument.
• Visigothic Necropolis of Cuyacabras (5th century)
• Visigothic Church of Quintanilla de las Viñas (7th century)
• Romanesque Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos (11th century)
• Medieval
towns of Peñaranda de Duero and Coruña del Conde
• Roman Villa of Baños de Valdearados
• Capital city of Burgos: Gothic Cathedral (13th century), old city, Archaeological Museum
