PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES AND RELEASE AGREEMENT

Participation Guidelines:

The participants in the ArchaeoSpain* program are expected to be good ambassadors and to participate positively in all aspects of the program. In all cases, cooperation, respect and consideration of others are crucial to the success of the group. We assume that our participants will be open to cultural differences, willing to try new things, flexible when difficulties arise, and responsible for themselves and for others in the group. Participants are supported and guided at all times by the University of Valladolid staff and by the group as a whole.

In general, common sense is the key to appropriate behavior. Basic things such as meal times or the Spanish daily regimen, availability or lack thereof of certain foods, and acceptable interpersonal conduct with strangers or superiors, as opposed to acquaintances, are often the things that can cause confusion or frustration. Participants should be observant and take their cues from their Spanish friends and co-workers. In ambiguous situations, just ask the University of Valladolid staff.

There are instances that may result in a participant's removal from the program while abroad:

1. The use of unauthorized drugs
2. Abuse of alcoholic beverages
3. Unacceptable social behavior (culturally inappropriate behavior, physical or verbal abuse, or any behavior that impinges on the rights of other members of the group), especially should it compromise the safety, research objectives and general performance of the group, or violate Spanish laws, regulations or customs.

In the case of voluntary or involuntary removal from the program, there will be no refund of fees or costs for the program for the individual concerned, and the person removed will be responsible for any traveling costs following the removal.

*ArchaeoSpain serves as only the agent for the University of Valladolid-Pintia site and will not be responsible for any liability for your participation at the site. The University of Valladolid will be solely responsible for the content and management of the program.

Release Agreement:

ArchaeoSpain programs often involve ranges of climate and temperature extremes, physical labor, unaccustomed hours for work and meals, delays, frustrations, and surprises. Such is the nature of archaeological field research and excavation. ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid reserve the right to refuse the offer of services of any participant and to terminate any work being done by a participant at any time during the program period. In consideration of being accepted as a participant in the ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid program, I hereby agree as follows:

1. I understand that, on rare occasions, an emergency may occur that necessitates the administration of prompt medical care, hospitalization or surgery. Therefore, in the event of injury or illness to me, I hereby give permission to the ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid program, by or through its authorized representatives or agents, to secure any necessary treatment including surgery and the administration of antibiotics, immunizations, anesthesia, and other medications and surgery as professional judgment dictates in the event I or my relations are unable or unavailable to render such decisions. It is understood that such treatment shall be solely at my expense, and we agree to reimburse the program for any expenses that it might incur on account of such injury, illness or treatment.

2. I further understand that I am solely responsible for any and all extraordinary costs arising out of my voluntary or involuntary removal from the program prior to its completion, including withdrawal due to illness.

3. I further state that I understand the content of the ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid program and the various activities involved therein, and I hereby expressly release ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid from any and all liabilities, claims, demands whatsoever, of every name and nature, that might arise as a result of my participation in this program, and further agree to hold ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid free, harmless, and indemnified from and against any and all such liabilities, claims or demands whatsoever, of every name and nature, that might arise as a result of my participation in this program.

4. I further acknowledge that I am aware that many of the events that might possibly have a direct effect on the ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid program are far beyond the control of ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid, and that I therefore expressly acknowledge that ArchaeoSpain-University of Valladolid shall not be responsible for any injuries, damages, or losses caused to me as a result of any social or labor unrest, transportation difficulties, terrorist activities, diseases, local and national laws, climatic conditions, or other abnormal conditions or developments.

5. I fully understand that my name, photo, image or other reproduction of my likeness may be used in connection with information regarding ArchaeoSpain, in future publications, etc., and I further agree to hold harmless ArchaeoSpain, it agents, servants or employees from any and all damages as a result of that use.

6. At Pintia, ArchaeoSpain acts solely as an agent for the University of Valladolid and does not operate, manage, control, supervise or in any way have control over the programs, staff, site, accommodations, or the like. Any claims, etc. must be presented directly to the university, and you, as a participant, agree to hold harmless ArchaeoSpain, its agents, servants, or employees from any and all damages as a result of your participation in its program.
