SITE DIRECTORS

Carlos Sanz, Ph.D.

Dr. Sanz has been performing extensive research at the site of Pintia for more than 25 years. A professor of Archaeology at the University of Valladolid, he founded the Federico Wattenberg Center for Vaccean Studies which oversees all the research work at Pintia. During this time Dr. Sanz has worked diligently to uncover, preserve and disseminate this site's historical and archaeological heritage.

Fernando Romero, Ph.D.

Dr. Romero is a professor of Prehistory at the University of Valladolid with years of experience working in the Duero region of Spain. His work has focused on Iron Age peoples, including the excavations of several fortifications in the Soria province and Vaccean settlements in Valladolid.

Both Drs. Sanz and Romero have been instrumental in bringing about the development of the site’s research facilities and a local museum as well as encouraging the enthusiastic involvement many local and regional public and private entities.

INTERNATIONAL COORDINATORS

Catherine Moon

Catie grew up in Mexico and Costa Rica before graduating from Texas A&M University in May 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Genetics and a minor in Roman Classical Studies. Her research focused on cis and transacting determinants for DNA replication. Catie has worked two summers at Pintia and is currently studying for a master's degree in Palaeopathology at Durham University in England.

Ana Isabel Garrido

Ana earned a degree in History from the University of Valladolid, and she has worked on several pre-Roman and Roman sites, including Pintia. Over the last 10 years she has managed and led several excavations.

Cristina Górriz

Cristina was named co-director of the Pintia excavation in 2006 after working on the site since 2002. She holds a History degree from the University of Valladolid, and now Cristina is preparing her doctoral thesis on wine and banquets during the prehistory of the middle Duero region.

Roberto de Pablo

Roberto is another site co-director, after having worked at Pintia since 2005. When not at Pintia, Roberto works as a researcher at the University of Valladolid and is preparing his Ph.D. on the Romanization of the Duero region. He is also an expert in pre-Roman weaponary.

Teodora Olteanu

Originally from Romania, Teodora is now finishing her Ph.D. in Archaeology at Valladolid University with a dissertation on the Roman Victory. For the past decade she has worked on numerous Roman excavations, including military camps at Apulum and Potaissa in Romania, and a villa in Rabaçal, Portugal. In Spain, Teo has excavated a Roman villa in Almenara de Adaja, in addition to working four seasons at the Roman city of Uxama and two seasons at Pintia. Aside from her native language, Teo speaks English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Daniel Morales

Chicago-born Daniel joined us at Pintia for the first time in 2009, and is now working on his Bachelor's degree in Anthropology at Miami-Dade College. Daniel speaks fluent Spanish and English.
